5 Things We Don’t Sell at EB Skin
Because sometimes what you don’t do is just as important as what you do.
At EB Skin, we’re known for our ethical, results-driven approach to skincare in Nashville—and we’re proud of it. Our facial treatments, advanced age management protocols, and science-backed skincare products have helped countless people feel more confident in their own skin.
But let’s take a moment to talk about what we don’t sell.
Why? Because in the age of overhyped beauty trends and TikTok-fueled product launches, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s actually good for your skin—and what might just be expensive nonsense (or worse, harmful).
Here are five things we’ve chosen not to offer at EB Skin, and exactly why that matters for you and your skin health.
1. Topical Human Exosomes
(aka: genetic mystery soup)
Yes, exosomes are having a moment. They’re being touted in med spas all across Nashville for their ability to rejuvenate aging skin using microscopic vesicles derived from human tissue—often from blood banks, umbilical cords, or amniotic fluid.
But here’s the problem:
There are no industry regulations or FDA approvals for the use of human-derived exosomes in cosmetic treatments. That means you’re putting a whole lot of trust in a private company to ethically source, sanitize, and stabilize human genetic material… and they claim to be removing the DNA?
At EB Skin, we don’t play fast and loose with science. We already offer proven, science-backed modalities like professional LED light therapy and lab-engineered growth factor technology—backed by decades of research—for stimulating collagen, repairing damage, and reversing the signs of aging without the ethical or biological gray area.
One day you may find exosome skincare at EB Skin, but for now we are waiting for them to be proven both safe and effective.
2. Chemical Sunscreens
We stick to mineral only—always.
Every sunscreen we offer at EB Skin is chemical-free and made with mineral-based UV blockers like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These ingredients act like a reflective umbrella—shielding your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays without disrupting your hormones or your health.
Chemical sunscreens? Not so much. Studies have shown that common chemical filters are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, can be detected in urine, and may even interfere with hormone levels and male fertility. And if that’s not enough, they’ve also been found to damage coral reefs, which is why they’re banned in many tropical destinations.
Thanks to modern reef-safe zinc technology, we now have powerful mineral sunscreens that perform beautifully—even in extreme heat and humidity—without the risks.
3. Hydroquinone
The brightening shortcut we don’t take.
Hydroquinone has long been used to fade dark spots and melasma by suppressing pigment production in the skin. But here’s what they don’t always tell you: it’s been banned from over-the-counter use in the U.S. and flagged by the FDA due to concerns over safety, including its classification as a potential carcinogen.
In many med spas, prescription hydroquinone is used without proper supervision, often leading to unwanted rebound pigmentation, permanent discoloration, and poor long-term outcomes.
At EB Skin, we choose safer, more effective pigment correctors like retinol, kojic acid, and arbutin—while these take a little longer to work, they are all clinically supported and far more gentle on your skin in the long run.
4. Artificial Fragrances & Dyes
Because your skin isn’t a scented candle.
Fragrance and colorants add nothing to your skin’s health—and in fact, they can disrupt it. These unnecessary additives often compromise your skin’s microbiome, exacerbate sensitivity and inflammation, and trigger conditions like rosacea and acne.
That’s why you’ll never find synthetic fragrance or artificial dyes in the products we carry. If you want your skincare to smell amazing, opt for one of our botanical lines like Eminence Organics, which gets its natural aroma from real fruits, herbs, and flowers—not a lab.
5. At-Home Skin Devices (Mostly)
You don’t need another drawer full of disappointment.
We get asked all the time about the latest trending skin gadgets—from at-home microcurrent toners and sonic exfoliators to DIY lasers and mini RF wands. Here’s our take: most of them are a waste of time and money.
They offer minimal results and require hours of use to even maybe move the needle. Plus, they often break quickly and wind up in the trash—cluttering both your routine and the environment.
The only at-home tool we do recommend?
Red light therapy, when done consistently with a reputable device. It’s an excellent way to maintain your results between professional LED treatments at EB Skin. The rest? Leave it to the pros.
Final Thoughts
At EB Skin, everything we do is rooted in science, safety, and results. We don’t jump on every trend. We don’t chase hype. And we definitely don’t sell you something we wouldn’t use ourselves just to make a quick buck.
Our Nashville skincare community deserves the best—and sometimes that means saying no to what’s flashy and yes to what’s proven safe and effective.
